(5th of November 2015) Norkring is to provide DAB in tunnels on all trunk roads in the Hordaland county of Norway. The news was announced after the company recently won an RFQ from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, region west.
The FM network is set to be switched off in 2017, which is why the Norwegian Public Roads Administration is in the process of upgrading all broadcasting systems in tunnels to enable them to transmit DAB signals.
Biggest in the market
TC Connect, Norkring’s collaboration partner, will supply the turnkey solution, while Norkring will deliver DAB with emergency announcements. In Hordaland, coverage in around 50 tunnels is to be provided by some 30 DAB systems, and Norkring is well-equipped for the task. The solution will be in place in the first half of 2016.
“This is fantastic news and a key milestone for Norkring as a company,” said Emma Carlson, Sales Manager at Norkring, who is behind the recently signed contract, together with Technical Manager Jørn Halvorsen.
The upgrade will be carried out region-by-region, and Hordaland is one of the counties with the most tunnels. This makes Norkring the biggest player in the market, demonstrating our ability to position ourselves,” says Emma.
More tunnels in sight
Further RFQs are expected for the southern and central regions of Norway before Christmas or during the first quarter of 2016. Emma has a clear gut feeling about this — it’s looking good for the future!
